Now
i am talking about the article that i have read, the article is about narrative
inquiry. Narrative inquiry is a story or a collection of stories. Doing
narrative inquiry means involving eliciting and documenting the narrative. Bruner
(1990) said that narrative inquiry is based on the premise that we understand
or make sense of our lives through narrative. Narrative inquiry is conducive to
documenting the changing conditions of lives and the impact these new
conditions can have over time on all aspects of an individual’s life, including
language learning. We cannot deny that narrative inquiry has impacts in
people’s lives and also in other certain fields. There are many benefits to
this type of research, the most important is the variety of insights narrative.
Narrative inquiry has been used in the field of applied linguistics to explore
motivation, identity, multilingualism, learning strategies, language loss,
autonomy and self-directed learning. Narrative inquiry can yield practical
pedagogical information. According to Cole & Knowles (2001), just as there
are many approaches to narrative inquiry, there are many ways to do life
history research. So, to collect the data there are many ways to be considered
such as develop research design, prepare interview questions, conduct a pilot
study, select participants, establish a rapport with the participant, conduct
and transcribe the interviews.
So,
my opinion about narrative inquiry, just like previously that narrative inquiry
is impactful in every individual’s life as well as some certain fields.
Somehow, narrative inquiry is important for researchers and also for everyone
who wants to conduct this because narrative inquiry involves stories of
individual experiences.
