Writing 5 : Summary of Journal 6

Okay, i am going to talk about Narrative Inquiry. Just like the previous, the journal that i have read is discussing about narrative inquiry. Narrative inquiry is important for research, not only in research field, in education and so on. Narrative inquiry is possibly looking for connection or guidance, for possibilities to retell and relive their stories with new hope and possibility ( Clandinin & Connelly, 2009). The function of narrative inquiry looks for connection for the stories, then retell the story with new hopes and new possibilities. Many stories we hear connect with our experience as human beings. We often share our experience, fraught with humor, excitement, and sometimes anger. According to Clandinin & Conelly (2000, p. xxii) people’s lives and how they are composed and lived out is what is of interest. We social scientists are gossips on a grand scale, interested in observing, participating with, thinking about, saying and writing the doings and goings-on of our fellow humans. Narrative inquirers are interested in these stories and the lived experience of the storytellers. Within a narrative inquiry context, we engage in narratives to tell and listen to stories of lived experiences and retell our combined narratives emphasizing resonance and meaning (Conle, 1996).
In my opinion that narrative inquiry is about tell and retell the stories of lived experiences of someone. We hear many lived stories of other people and connect with our experiences. We retell the stories with new hopes and new possibilities in the future

Writing 5 : Summary of Journal 5

Now i am talking about the article that i have read, the article is about narrative inquiry. Narrative inquiry is a story or a collection of stories. Doing narrative inquiry means involving eliciting and documenting the narrative. Bruner (1990) said that narrative inquiry is based on the premise that we understand or make sense of our lives through narrative. Narrative inquiry is conducive to documenting the changing conditions of lives and the impact these new conditions can have over time on all aspects of an individual’s life, including language learning. We cannot deny that narrative inquiry has impacts in people’s lives and also in other certain fields. There are many benefits to this type of research, the most important is the variety of insights narrative. Narrative inquiry has been used in the field of applied linguistics to explore motivation, identity, multilingualism, learning strategies, language loss, autonomy and self-directed learning. Narrative inquiry can yield practical pedagogical information. According to Cole & Knowles (2001), just as there are many approaches to narrative inquiry, there are many ways to do life history research. So, to collect the data there are many ways to be considered such as develop research design, prepare interview questions, conduct a pilot study, select participants, establish a rapport with the participant, conduct and transcribe the interviews.
So, my opinion about narrative inquiry, just like previously that narrative inquiry is impactful in every individual’s life as well as some certain fields. Somehow, narrative inquiry is important for researchers and also for everyone who wants to conduct this because narrative inquiry involves stories of individual experiences.

Writing 5 : Summary of Journal 4

To this section i want to talk the journal that i have read about narrative inquiry. Narrative inquiry itself is rooted in the work of Connely and Clandinin (1988) who define narrative inquiry as “the study of how humans make meaning of experience by endlessly telling and retelling stories about themselves that both refigure the past and create purpose in the future. Narrative inquiry encompasses the stories that people tell, as well as the collection, desccription, and interpretation of those stories, producing “narrative of experience” ( Connely & Clandinin, 1990, p.2). in education, narrative inquiry in english education can be powerful pedagogical tool as in addition that narratives have characters who are a part of the events, as well as narrators who construct the story.
In narrative inquiry, students are characters in their narratives, they are a part of the events and experiences about which they write. Students need opprtunities, and encouragement to become “narrators” that examine their perspectives and attittudes in order to make sense of those aspects of their narratives. When engaged in narrative inquiry, guiding students toward a stance of constructed knowing seems logical, if not necessary, and requires a pedagogy that blends their past experience. As prospective teacher engage in narrative inquiry, they may be allowed to return in a sense, to a position of subjective knowing. At the least, they know that their subjective knowledge is powerful tool of learning.
In my opinion, that narrative inquiry is important in english education because it gives challenge in education. Narrative inquiry reflects a vision of teaching and leads to the construction of knowledge, particularly knowledge of self, knowledge of others, and concept knowledge of teaching. So it gives both teachers and students benefit in education.
